SPLM-IO National Liberation Council to convene 4th meeting on Thursday in Juba

The meeting which will run under the theme: “Towards Democratic, United and Prosperous South Sudan” will discuss completion of the organization of the SPLM-IO as well as the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

JUBA — South Sudan’s main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny will on Thursday conduct its 4th National Liberation Council meeting in Juba.

The meeting which will run under the theme: “Towards Democratic, United and Prosperous South Sudan” will discuss completion of the organization of the SPLM-IO as well as the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

Speaking to Sudans Post, Acting Press Secretary to the First Vice President Puok Both Baluang who doubles as the Director of Information and Public Relations said the meeting will discuss, among other things, the reorganization of the movement.

He also said the meeting will deliberate on the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement signed in 2018 by the SPLM-IO and several other opposition groups with the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

“This is to confirm that the SPLM/SPLA (IO) will conduct its 4th National Liberation Council meeting on Thursday, 2nd December 2021, in Juba under the chairmanship of H.E the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon,” Baluang told Sudans Post this evening.

“The Meeting aims at completing the organization the National Liberation Council (NLC) and discussing the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement,” the senior opposition official added.

He further said that participants will include members of National Liberation Council (NLC) SPLM-IO members representing the group in the reconstituted national legislature, state chairpersons, deputy chairpersons and secretary-generals.
