JUBA – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has promised to reflect 35% women affirmative action, and youth representation in the party’s structure.

The main opposition party Secretary General, Regina Joseph, made this pledge in her remarks during the opening of SPLM-IO national conference in Juba yesterday.

“It is our principle that gender, and youth representations are highly reflected in the power configuration and organization of SPLM-IO,” Regina said.

Joseph, the group’s Deputy Chairperson for DDR commission revealed that her party has fully implemented the affirmative action not only at the level of national and state government but also in the structure of their movement.

The official has also called upon her countrymen and women to push for full implementation of the 2018 peace agreement.

“It is obligatory upon all of us South Sudanese people from all walks of life to push for full implementation of the peace agreement in order to improve our living conditions,” she said.

She said that the peace agreement has offered a new opportunity for South Sudanese to rebuild their country from the ashes of turmoil it has undergone over the recent years.

“Unless we translate the agreement into action, the dream of achieving the South Sudan we want, will always remain impossible  and our country shall continue to remain behind in   the fast developing and progressing world,” SPLM-IO Interim Secretary said.
