JUBA – The main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has condemned what it says is a proxy war waged by the ruling SPLM faction led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit which it also accused of manipulating security systems.
This comes after security forces in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State’s capital Aweil arrested and detained – for three days – the anti-corruption commission boss, Arok Anei Akuei, who is also a senior member of the Machar party, for three days.
In a statement extended to Sudans Post, Dut Majokdit, the chair of NBGS RRC and member of the SPLM-IO National Liberation Council said the chair of anti-corruption watchdog in the state and senior member of SPLM-IO was detained on Friday.
“It’s very unfortunately and painful for the security organs to keep Hon. Anei Rok Akuei, Chairperson for Anti, Corruption commission for Northern Bhar El Ghazel in prison since Friday in Aweil,” Majokdit said in the statement.
The senior SPLM-IO official further said that his arrest is part of a well-organized proxy war by the SPLM faction under Kiir and is a violation of the constitution by the security organs to heed to political interference from politicians or political organizations.
“This proxy war is beyond politics and it is a violation of the law to direct the security organs to arrest the constitutional-post holders to sabotage the official launching of the state secretariat, while the parties are for implementation of the Peace Agreement,” he said.
“We condemned this barbaric act in the strongest terms possible and affirm that lack of political space in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State is a headache in Aweil regardless of the directives from the principals to the agreement,” he added.
Majokdit who is an outspoken official of the SPLM-IO further told Sudans Post in an exclusive interview this morning that the anti-graft chief has since been released and called for an immediate deployment of the unified forces to provide security.
