JUBA – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO), led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has said that Machar is now the acting head of state after President Salva Kiir left this morning for a visit to South Africa.
The presidency said in a statement seen by Sudans Post this morning that President Kiir will be in South Africa for three days and would be meeting South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on bilateral relations between the two countries.
This is in contradiction to what two presidency staffers told Sudans Post earlier in the day that President Kiir was visiting the southern African country for medical checkup after speculations on his health.
Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, member of SPLM-IO National Liberation Council (NLC) Dut Majokdit who is a close ally of Machar said the opposition leader is the acting head of state which he said is provided for in the 2018 peace agreement.
“I want to say that the agreement is very clear. The agreement states that when the president is away, the First Vice President will be the acting head of state pending return of the president,” the senior opposition official said.
“So, it is definitely the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny who is in control as the acting head of state and that will not change until President Salva Kiir Mayardit return from South Africa, whether today or next week, or next month,” he concluded.
Well, I don’t think the designated vice President Riek Machar Teny will be acting as a President of South Sudan for two reasons. 1 he refused for SPLM unification which he had signed in Tanzania. 2 he had formed SPLM I0 as a party separated from the SPLM party led by Kiir Mayardit and James Wani Igga and Taban Deng Gai.
During the National Dialogue initiative conference in Juba, Riek Machar had ordered his members not to attended meetings and calls for his own conference within Juba so he is not going to act as a President of South Sudan because of these factors. In a democratic government, the party in charge are they one who can act if the President has emergency. I am aware of those people who thinking, they have PhD in South Sudan are the worst people even cattle keepers are better than them. Can you imagine how the SPLM I0 saying, they should be in charge after when the President Salva Kiir Mayardit is left but they are asked for SPLM unification then, they rejected, when they were asked to attend national dialogue initiative conference then, they refused. I think I will be a good leader than Riek Machar Teny who had been confusing himself and South Sudanese people. James Wani Igga should act as a President of South Sudan if the President Salva Kiir Mayardit is absent.
Your are wrong Mr. Poster, maybe you should read the 2018 agreement. There it state that in the event of a “temporary absence” of the president, the first vice president will act as the president of country. Do not confuse this with the other article that says, in the event of “incapacity” due to any nature of human health, the party should nominate who to act as the president.

“SPLM-IO says Machar in ‘control as acting head of state’ after Kiir left for South Africa”
There is no way, Mr. Riek Machar can be *an acting president of South Sudan, never ever will and will never ever will under the sun or in million years*.
What does the lowly informed would want and do in the damned so-called South Africa, when the low life has (South Africa) had been badly infected population by *the corona-virus* than us here in South Sudan?
Lowly informed South Sudanese fools. Mr. Salva Kiir and his rival, Mr. Riek Machar must tell the South Sudanese people that their *dirty magic they had played over the people who are way too way ahead of them and must let us bomb their masters, out of our country and over our once and for all. Reasons, pure HATRED and RACISM*
Machar’s acting as a head of the state should not surprised you because he had been the one who came automatically as the First Vice President of which he can be left by the President to oversee or take charge of the affairs of the young Country. Those who rejected this arrangement are peace spoilers and they were against the revitalized peace accords that was signed in Khartoum by the two Parties in 2018. The compromised Agreement that was later changed to be a revitalized peace agreement didn’t placed those five Vice President for no recent they are there to work according to their seniority and if the head of the state is out of the Country then the one who comes ater him may take over and if he/ she is out too the other one could come, because there is no where for you to bring someone who can be acting while he/ she was not among the five Vice President.
Michael Malual Mawien.
You said for no recent than according? Do you mean for no reason?
I know you are singing about giving the presidency to Riek Machar Teny just in the name of 2018 peace agreement but listen to me. Any peace agreement that involves Dr. Riek Machar Teny always ending up in trash belief me brother. Second, what type of government system if the opposition are given a vice President while, the president is from different Party? This would be a foolish people who doesn’t know how the government system is setting. I don’t think Dr. Riek Machar understands any system when he was studied his career otherwise, he should have a platform and waited to contested whoever wanted to be President if you was truly stood the leadership style.
Iam n’t happy about DR Riek in that position_but i done know what will happen_so i have no idea about that
