JUBA – At least 77 defectors from the South Sudan’s Greater Bahr el Ghazal region have joined the country’s main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, according to a senior member of the group.

Dut Majokdit, a gubernatorial advisor in the defunct SPLM-IO government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal told Sudans Post on Sunday that the political cadres cross from the ruling SPLM faction led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

A ceremony attended by the SPLM-IO Secretary-General Tingo Peter was conducted on Sunday in Juba at South Sudan Hotel to welcome the political cadres.

“The SPLM-IO National Secretariat in the Person of honorable Tingo Peter the General Secretary has warmly welcome the new members that Joined the People’s Movement today at South Sudan hotel in Juba,” Majokdit told Sudans Post on phone from Juba.

“The Ceremony was attended by the SPLM-IO members of the Political Bureau, Molana Agok Makur, Ciriso Lado and some members of the NLC, defunct State Governors, Youth and the Students Leagues as well,” he added.

He further congratulated the “77 members that Joined the SPLM-IO from Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, Bor, Warrap State, Abyei and Lake State respectively” adding that the main armed opposition group “is championing the Reform agenda.”

I am always uncertain about this move from both sides.

Where on earth the peace partners in same collusion government could be allowed to do so? Or Is there any article that allows defection of members ofthe collusion government to switch as they want?

In my opinion, such moves should be avoided. It is likely to derail the spirit of working together as one for the delivery of badly needed services to the people this time tough time.

It’s of no sense to those who defect to SPLM-IO,in which article of Transitional government of national unity that allows self-will defection to any side of the parties ,otherwise this would be violation of revitalized peace agreement, I suggest that government should take severe measures to halt this illegitimate acts and the peace breakers have to be bound by laws
