JUBA — Former SPLM-IO chapter chairperson in Victoria, Australia, Nyajany Joshua Dei Weang, has abandoned the SPLM-IO faction led by former opposition governor of the defunct Sobat state Duer Tut Duer and declared her intention to join the Kitgwang faction led by General Dimin Gatwech Dual.

Nyajany said in a statement that he has abandoned Duer along with seven other members of the main armed opposition group in Australia with effect from today.

“Dear compatriots, today we announce withdrawal of our affirmed support to declaration of Honourable Duer Tut Duer as the Interim Chairman of SPLM/A –IO. As well as declare our allegiance and full support to Kitgwang declaration under capable leadership of the C In C  First Lt General  Simon Gatwech Dual and Lt General Johnson Olony Thabo and  also equally supports the removal of former Chairman Dr Riek Machar Dhurgon from SPLM- IO leadership,” she said in a statement seen by Sudans Post.

“We support and share objective  and raised concerns in the declaration, some of which we had advocated for over the last 18 month. Also, we believe that strong opposition requires solidarity and unity of all who stand with the cause and aspire to see R-ARCSS implemented in letter and spirit,” she added.

She blamed the slow implementation of the revitalized peace agreement on First Vice President and SPLM-IO chairman Dr. Riek Machar Teny saying President Salva Kiir Mayardit was not pressured into implementing the 2018 peace deal.

“Deposed Dr Riek Machar, is deservedly removed since he had failed the mission of the movement, his duties, and more importantly, he compromised the implementation of the fundamental provisions of the revitalised agreement,” she said.

“Unfortunate for far too long, non implementation of R-ARCSS  due to failures of Dr. Riek Machar and President Kiir’s regime continues to deny our citizens so much, to resume and rehabilitate to dignified live, stability, security and achievement of potential development and prosperity,” she added.

She further stated that the group “trust Kitgwang Declaration leadership will maintain the course towards achieving aspirations, and peace hopes of the victimised citizens of South Sudan.”

Others who joined General Gatwech’s favoring with the SPLM-IO member include Tut Lualweang Wuol Tel, Changkuoth Luak Duot, Tut Ruot Lual Dol, Duol Lual Wuol, Dr Bol Poul Juol, Shaker Salah Lieliam, and Chuol Ruot Chuol Deng.
