JUBA – The former governor of the defunct Ajak South County of the defunct Aweil state, William Lual Lual, has declared his intention to abandon the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM-IG) under President Salva Kiir Mayardit and joined Machar.

In a statement, the senior SPLM official said President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s government has failed to deliver services to the people of South Sudan and said Machar’s SPLM-IO is the new hope for the people of South Sudan.

“His government has failed from 2005 to deliver services to our people, not only in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, but throughout the country including here in the capital Juba,” the former government official said.

In a statement separately, senior SPLM-IO member of the group’s National Liberation Council (NLC) and close ally of First Vice President Machar Dut Majokdit welcomed the decision of the former Ajak South commissioner.

“I would like to take this opportunity to welcome comrade William Lual Lual, former commissioner of Ajak South County of the defunct Aweil State, for the wise decision to join the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition; it’s the time to speak out the truth for our people,” Majokdit said.

“You’re highly welcome to the SPLM/A-IO under the people’s leader His Excellency Dr. Riek, First Vice President in the Revitalized transitional Government of National Unity. We appreciate your courageous decision for abandoning the SPLM-IG and switch to the reform political movement the SPLM-IO as the leader of the SPLM/A-IO in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state,” he added.
