JUBA – The former deputy governor of South Sudan’s Upper Nile state, Tor Monybuny, has welcomed his sacking from the position thanking President Salva Kiir Mayardit for the chance given to appoint him governor of the defunct Central Upper Nile state as well as deputy governor of Upper Nile following the return to ten states.
Monybuny hails from the Ngok Lual Yak of Baliet County in Upper Nile state and was appointed the governor of Central Nile state in 2017 following decision of President Kiir to divide the country into 28, then 32, states. He was removed in 2019 just months after the signing of the revitalized peace agreement.
In a statement following his sacking this week, Monybuny welcomed the decision of the president and thanked Kiir for the time he spent has the top government official in Upper Nile state.
“This letter serves to register my immense appreciation to Your Excellency for the trust you place on me under the previous assignment as the governor of defunct Central Upper Nile State and the Chairman of SPLM from 2017 to 2019 and the recent assignment as deputy Governor and SPLM Interim Chairperson of Upper Nile State in early 2021 till this time,” he said.
“Since the time your Excellency appointed me as Deputy Governor and SPLM Interim Chairperson of Upper Nile State, myself the team actively engaged in sensitizing and disseminating peace agreement among the war fragmented communities of Upper Nile State to live in peace and harmony among themselves and to rejuvenate, revive and resuscitate our historical party, the SPLM back to its glorious days in the state, the party is currently restructured from Buma to state level,” he added.
“Your Excellency, I thank you very much for the chance you had given to me twice and I remain committed to your leadership and our historical party to ensure peace prevail in our beloved Country at any level of assignment or either private citizen or ordinary member of the party.
“I also extended my warmest appreciation to the people of Upper Nile State in general for their unyielding and unwavering support to the government of the state and SPLM activities under my guidance.
“Your Excellency, allow me to thanks the Governor of the state whom I have shared some experience both positives and negative but we managed to shoulder one another for the purpose of common good of our people. I equally thank the Executive, Legislators, state security organs and all the partners in peace agreement for the team work, thanks all.
“Finally I congratulate Cde. Dak Tap Chuol for the trust bestowed upon him by you for appointing him as Deputy Governor and SPLM Interim Chairperson of Upper Nile State. He will carry on with the additional work with the rest of the team.”
