Spy agency dismisses member from service, sentences him to 5 years in prison

A National Security Tribunal court in South Sudan's capital Juba has dismissed from service one of the spy agency's soldiers and sentenced him to five years in prison for violating the National Security Service Act, according to Internal Security Bureau spokesman David Joel.

JUBA – A National Security Tribunal court in South Sudan’s capital Juba has dismissed from service one of the spy agency’s soldiers and sentenced him to five years in prison for violating the National Security Service Act, according to Internal Security Bureau spokesman David Joel.

Joel said Private Cirillo Kamillo Cirilo was found guilty for negligence that caused injuries and abuse of power and his prison term  starts from his arrest in 2018, but could not explain the exact crime the officer did.

The soldier, Joel said, has been has been stripped of his rank and removed from the national security service active list.

“[Secondly] he is deprived of being paid dues post-retirement pension of services or after services gratuity – if any,” Joel who read the verdict on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation said Tuesday night.

The security agency spokesman said Cirillo was sentenced in accordance with section 238 of the Penal Code Act 2008 and 62 of the National Security Act 2014.
