JUBA – Hundreds of troops from South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) have been deployed to southern Abyei following an tensions in which armed men from neighboring Warrap State’s Twic County attacked several areas in southern Abyei including Aneet town.

Dozens of people are feared to have died after heavily armed youth group from neighboring Warrap State launched a deadly attack on several areas in southern Abyei on October 10 with eyewitnesses saying that the attack targeted Madiing, Mabuony, Juoljok as well as Agok Airstrip Estate inside Aneet.

Speaking to Sudans Post, a resident of Aneet town said this morning that the security situation there is calm after the army command in Juba deployed forces to prevent further clashes between armed youth in the both areas.

“The security situation since October 10 is has improve and calm has returned. Forces from the SSPDF and the police have been deployed here and there is nothing happening currently,” he said from Aneet town on condition of anonymity.

For his part, Gen. Gabriel Chol Madol, a senior officer of the SSPDF said the security situation has been brought under control after the army deployed forces in order to restore calm and prevent further attacks in the disputed territory.

“New forces are currently being transported to Agok/Anet airstrip since yesterday and today. More forces are coming by land. So, we need the leaders to inform their people that nobody is allowed to go to Aneet because government forces are on ground in Anet,” he is quoted by Radio Community as saying.
