JUBA – A South Sudan army general who was sentenced to at least three years in jail after he was found guilty of raping his own daughter by a court in the capital Juba on Friday has been set free by the prison service, a lawyer has claimed.

On September 30th 2022, a court found Brig. Gen. Daniel Akot Akot of having committed rape offense against his own daughter since she was 15 and then sentenced the army general to at least three years in jail and fined him 1 million South Sudanese Pound.

Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, Josephine Adhet Deng, plaintiff’s lawyer said he has been informed from the prison service that General Daniel Akot Akot has been released from jail just less than a week after he was sentenced.

“General Daniel Akot Akot is now in the house instead of jail and he is looking the innocent kids where I hide them. He was released by the director of prison service who is used to releasing prisoners by receiving bribes and now I am in the process of appeal for the sentenced to be made more serious,” she said.

Lawyer Adhet further revealed that she was filing a complaint against the director of prison General Malou Makuach whom she accused of always releasing criminals and convicts by receiving bribes without implementing the court orders.

“I’m now preparing complaint against prison service director Gen. Malou Makuach for always releasing criminals in prison. I didn’t sleep yesterday. I spent all the night inside the office just to make sure that I compile the complaint by today,” Adhet added.
