ABYEI – Six Abyei Independent Brigade (AIB) personnel detained by army (SSPDF) in Wun-yiik military baracks when conflict erupted between the Ngok Dinka and Twic of Warrap State in February 2022 have been released, an official confirmed.
The Information minister of Abyei Administrative Area, Bulis Koch Aguar said the suspects were detained by the military for two years without trial.
Koch identified those released as Adol Deng Adol, Akeech Majok Chol, Adol Atem Adol, Ajing Ngor Makueth, Ring Akot Malek and Makuac Monyjok Ngor.
“The six (6) personnel were released on 13th February,2024 and have now been reunited with their families,” he told Abyei FM, adding that four individuals were flown to Abyei to reunite with their families and two others flew to Juba for medical treatment.
The minister appreciated the government of Abyei Special Administrative Area under the leadership of Ambassador Chol Deng Alak, the Chief Administrator for securing the release and facilitating the journey of the detainees back to families.
He further applauded those who played a role in ensuring the individuals’ release.
