JUBA – Troops from South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) and Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a coordinated attack on an elite base of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) in Unity State on Saturday morning, multiple security sources told Sudans Post.

Fighting reportedly erupted at around 9:00 a.m. at the SPLA-IO’s Garia base, located near the northern border with Sudan’s West Kordofan State, and was still ongoing at the time of reporting.

According to the sources, the assault was launched from two fronts: SSPDF forces advanced from the east via Pan Akuach, south of the Sudanese oil hub Heglig, while RSF units attacked from Suq al-Qaria in Mujlad locality, situated to the north of Garia.

The targeted base houses an SPLA-IO armory brigade under the group’s 4A Infantry Division of northern Unity State.

Further details remain limited, and there was no immediate comment from either the SSPDF or SPLA-IO leadership.
