In a statement, the Murle community said they “have received credible reports and evidence currently regarding the mobilization of six (6) SPLA (IO) divisions militia forces under command of the Nuer (Lou) Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual the Chief of General staff for the SPLM/A (IO) forces, SSPDF mechanize (Division 10), SSPDF (Division 8) and allies the Dinka Bor of Jonglei State.”
Some parties to the revitalized peace agreement, especially the SSPDF and the SPLA-IO, have been in the pass accused by UN reports of fueling the conflict in the restive Jonglei state by allegedly providing fighters and weapons to feuding ethnic groups in Jonglei.
In the statement, the Murle community claimed that planned assault on Murle areas by the SPLA-IO is a part of a SPLA-IO conspiracy to remove President Salva Kiir Mayardit from power and destabilize the world’s youngest country.
“The current mobilization and imminent assault on the Murle ethnic group by SPLA (IO) forces is to destabilize the unity government in Juba and a coup plot to topple South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit leadership,” the statement extended to Sudans Post said.
“The Murle community shares this news report to all relevant parties in South Sudan to warn the dangers posed by SPLA (IO) using the undercover of inter-communal clashes amongst civilians, to wage a proxy civil war against President Kiir and wipe out the minority Murle ethnic group throughout Greater Pibor,” it adds.
It further added that the mobilization is being done by SPLA-IO forces in Greater Akobo and “consist of allies the Dinka Bor of Jonglei State, the Nuer (Gawaar), Nuer (Lou), Nuer (Jikany) with Nuer of Ethiopia crossing the border into South Sudan to join the SPLA (IO) forces in eastern Jonglei and Upper Nile State.”
