SSPDF’s Division 4 commander dies in Egypt

South Sudan's 4th Infantry Division Commander Major-General Akol Majok has died in the Egyptian capital Cairo after a long illness, several senior members of South Sudan's army have confirmed to Sudans Post this afternoon.

JUBA – South Sudan’s 4th Infantry Division Commander Major-General Akol Majok has died in the Egyptian capital Cairo after a long illness, several senior members of South Sudan’s army have confirmed to Sudans Post this afternoon.

General Majok who was to be replaced by General Joseph Manyuat Manyzol died on Monday in the Egyptian capital Cairo while undergoing medical attention after being there for several weeks.

“This is to confirm that General Akol Majok has passed away in Egypt on Monday. He has been there for a number of weeks and he died from the sickness on July 12, 2021,” one senior army commander said.

General Majok is a renowned army commander belonging to the Lou community of Western Bahr el Ghazal state. He comes from the same community as former army chief General Ajonga Mawut who also passed Away in Egypt in 2018.

The army is yet to issue an official statement on his demise, by the spokesman of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) Major-General Lul Ruai Koang confirmed to Sudans Post his demise.
