BOR – South Sudan government soldiers stationed in Gadiang outside Bor town have reportedly attacked aid convoy headed for Duk Payuel, state authorities said.
Duk Payuel County commissioner, Deng Achiek said this morning during a phone call to Sudans Post that government soldiers who have gone for months without food attacked the convoy on Wednesday.
“The soldiers were stationed at Gadiang when they attacked the aid convoy coming to Duk,” Achiek said.
“They thought there was food on the cars but they didn’t know that they were for needs accessing mission,” he said.
South Sudan descended into civil war in December 2013 after soldiers belonging to the country’s army massacre thousands of Nuer civilians in the capital.
The government and opposition groups two years ago signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace deal in a bid to end the war.
Efforts are currently underway to form a unity government, but outstanding issues are hampering those efforts.
