Sudan welcomes Kiir’s mediation offer over conflict with Ethiopia

Last week, President Kiir told a visiting Sudanese delegation that he was ready to mediate so that the conflict over border between Sudan and  Ethiopia do not escalate further.

JUBA – The Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has welcomed an offer by South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit to mediate in its ongoing tensions with Ethiopia hailing it as commitment to the principles of African solutions to African Problems.

Last week, President Kiir told a visiting Sudanese delegation that he was ready to mediate so that the conflict over border between Sudan and  Ethiopia do not escalate further.

Later on, Prime Minister Hamdok met visiting South Sudan minister for East African Affairs Deng Alor Kuol who also delivered the message of mediation offer.

“The Prime Minister expressing his thanks and appreciation to the State of South Sudan, led by His Excellency Lieutenant General Salva Kiir Mayardit, for his efforts and good endeavors to ensure stability in the region,” Hamdok’s office said in a statement.

“Also, (Hamdok) welcomed the initiative, as it constitutes an affirmation of the principle of African solutions to African challenges,” it added.
