AWEIL – A Sudanese businessman was shot and killed by unidentified bandits on the highway connecting Twic County and the Abyei Administrative Area on Tuesday evening, officials said.

The incident occurred around 6:00 PM on the Twic County highway, where armed men reportedly opened fire on a commercial vehicle. The victim, identified as Ahmed Adam Ali, died at the scene.

“The car was heading to Abyei when it was riddled with bullets, leading to the death of Mr. Ahmed. The driver narrowly escaped, though he was severely wounded,” Major-General Kuai Ajak, who is stationed in the Malual-Aleu area told Sudans Post on Thursday.

The driver, who sustained head injuries, managed to flee to Abyei town, Ajak added. The assailants made off with a significant sum of money after killing Ali.

Ajak also revealed that two trucks filled with goods were looted last month in Malual-Aleu, but the suspects have not been apprehended.

He acknowledged the increasing insecurity on the Abyei-Twic highway, emphasizing that efforts would be intensified to enhance local protection.

Commander Ajak urged the public to avoid walking alone in dense vegetation, which could serve as hiding spots for bandits or armed men.

The area between Twic and Abyei has been plagued by communal fighting, leading to frequent robberies by criminal elements.
