JUBA – The Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Military Council Abdel Farrah al-Burhan has this morning arrived in the South Sudanese capital Juba for talks with holdout opposition groups, according to a statement by the presidency.
Since earlier this month, leader of Sudan Liberation Movement/Army General Abdel Wazir Nuor and the leader of the SPLM-North Abdel Azaz Adam al Hilu have been in Juba.
The previously met President Salva Kiir and deputy chairperson of the military council General Mohamed Hamadan Daglo for discussion on how to start the peace process.
In a statement this morning, the presidency said Kiir welcomed al-Burhan at Juba airport ahead of talks with rebel groups who are not part of the October 2020 Juba peace agreement negotiated by Kiir.
“H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit this morning, has recieved H.E. Abdel Fattah al Buhran, Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council upon arrival at Juba International Airport,” the presidency statesment reads in part.
“H.E. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan is in Juba for Sudan’s peace talks with the holdout Opposition Groups of SPLM-North of General Abdel Aziz Adam al-Hilu and SLM of Abdel Wahid al-Nur,” it added.
