JUBA – Sudans Post on Wednesday apologized to the SPLM-IO and the public for wrongly stating that the SPLM-IO Director for National Security, Gen. Yiey Dak Wieh, and the SPLA-IO Director of Military Intelligence, Gen. Dhiling Keah had fled into hiding.

The report titled ‘SPLM-IO Security Chiefs flee into hiding’ quoted an anonymous source in confirming the authenticity of the alleged escape after having been threatened following the deployment of heavily security forces along the way leading to First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar’s residence.

“Sudans Post issues this note to apologize to the SPLM-IO and particularly to Gen. Yiey Dak, the SPLM-IO DG for NS, and Gen. Dhiling Keah, the SPLA-IO DG for MI, after the publication of a report titled “SPLM-IO security chiefs flee into hiding” by our news website,” the news outlet said in a statement Wednesday morning.

The statement said the news organization has “established that the two generals have not fled into hiding and therefore take this opportunity to apologize to the SPLM-IO and the two generals for reporting an unconfirmed incident to the public from an anonymous source.

“We acknowledge that reports such as this particular one creates further disappointment from the public towards their leaders and also increase tensions at this particular time in the country and Sudans Post would work to avoid similar reports in the future.”

The story has since been taken down, the statement said.
