JUBA – At least three South Sudanese activists affiliated with the Junubin Chronicles were apprehended on Thursday afternoon by the South Sudan National Security Service (NSS).

They were reportedly involved in seeking information about their detained colleague, Biar Ajak Marol, who went missing last year after being arrested by the NSS.

Bill Kuor Nyiel and Bafara Santelo, both members of the Junubin Chronicles, along with Delighty Keji, another activist, were taken into custody at 3:00 PM following a summons to the Tiger Battalion in al-Qiada.

According to a source within the Junubin Chronicles, the three activists responded to separate calls by security personnel to verify the arrest of an individual.

However, upon arrival, they were themselves detained and transferred to the NSS headquarters in Jebel.

Their arrest is purportedly linked to their advocacy efforts urging the government to reveal the whereabouts of Biar.

Biar, the Executive Director of Junubin Chronicles, disappeared under unclear circumstances on October 4, 2023, in Juba.

His car was discovered parked near the recently constructed Freedom Bridge along the River Nile.
