JUBA/WAIWUT – A package of three-month salaries meant for forces of former SPLA-IO commander General Ochan Puot has disappeared while en route to the defunct Maiwut state capital Maiwut, according to former state government officials in Juba.

“Today, we were shocked to learn that three months salaries which were put on a chartered plane to Maiwut state for forces of General Ochan Puot, the government prison, police and wildlife service have gone missing,” one senior government official told Sudans Post on phone from Juba.

Another official said the amount in question is around 2.5 million South Sudanese Pound and said the disappearance of the salary has ignited controversy between government officials in Upper Nile state blaming each other.

“The amount of the money in question is 2.5 million SSP. It is not yet clear how the money disappeared and an investigation involving the company is now going on,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

Brigadier General Tor Mach Kuet who is said to be in charge of the salary is reportedly at the epicenter of the investigation and has reportedly been told to stay in Juba until  the investigation is completed.
