TONJ – South Sudan authorities in the country’s Tonj state have declared a dawn-to-dust curfew following inter-communal fighting over cattle raiding that killed over 10 people.
The curfew will be in effect from 7PM to 6AM local time.
Over the weekend, fighting erupted between rival clans in Tonj over cattle. Ten people were killed and several others suffered gunshot wounds.
The fighting was between the Thony, Apuk Juwiir, Yar and Muok.
Information minister in the state William Wol Mayom Bol told this website “the government has deployed join security forces in Tonj town.”
He said the forces “will patrol the town as part of the measures taken to prevent further violence.”
