JUBA – A high-ranking South Sudan National Security Service (NSS) officer has announced his defection to join the country’s former army chief General Paul Malong accusing the NSS’s Director of Internal Security Bureau of corruption and tribalism.

1st Lieutenant General Malith James Maker who was the Executive Director of Training Directorate at the National Security Service said he defected to General Paul Malong’s rebel South Sudan United Front/Army to fight for regime change which he said will help in the reformation of the army and other security organs.

“This is to inform my family, friends and general public that I have defected from the National Security Service (NSS-ISB) managed by corrupt and tribal minded person in the name of Gen. Akol Koor Kuc and his incompetent generals who have turned the institution inherited from the then Sudanese Government in Khartoum with its admirable, effective functions and structures and unfortunately turned into a tribal institution after independence of the Republic of South Sudan,” General Malith said in a statement extended to Sudans Post.

“I have decided to switch my allegiance to SSUF/A under brilliant command and leadership of Gen. Paul Malong Awan Anei, a veteran of the SPLA and a highly decorated Military Commander who furthered the cause of liberation struggle to fight for the total Peace, nationhood, development and transformation of the National Army,” the strong-worded statement reads in part.

The senior security officer said “promotions and deployments of service officers and NCOS is done depending on how closed you are to either to Gen. Akol Koor Kuc and his subordinating Chief of Divisions” and “Competent Senior/junior officers alike eventually got frustrated, depressed and as results, some decided to stay away from the service without salaries and the worst are those that committed suicides by killing oneself with own firearms; so far NSS-ISB have registered more than 15 cases of officers/NCOS who had decided to end their own lives in a time frame not less than a year.”

“Intelligence collection has stopped because an intended budget is either squandered or externally invested by the top leadership of the ISB for individual enrichment. 4. Officers and personnel files have either been abandoned or data kept in manual form instead of using contemporary biometric systems,” he added

He added that “Medical cover is denied to officers and NCOS of unrecognized backgrounds resulting to deaths of service Men/Women in miserable conditions. Cited above are some of the widespread malpractices that have commonly caused dysfunctionality of the institutions and makes it looks like an archaic intelligence Institution that can’t even compete with World Spy Agencies.”

“Therefore, I have abandoned such a corrupt institution and call upon like -minded colleagues who have been affected equally to follow suit. May God bless South Sudan and give us power as we yearn for regime change.”
