Top SPLM-IO official killed in southern Unity violence

James Gatjung Jail Dok, the deputy chairman of the SPLM-IO led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny in Unity State was killed when armed youth along with commissioner of Koch County in Unity State attacked Leer County killing hundreds of civilians and rapping women.

BENTIU – A senior South Sudan main armed opposition official was killed on Friday in Leer County of Unity State following violence that initially begun following attacks on main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) base in Koch County.

James Gatjung Jail Dok, the deputy chairman of the SPLM-IO led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny in Unity State was killed when armed youth along with commissioner of Koch County in Unity State attacked Leer County killing hundreds of civilians and rapping women.

In a statement extended to Sudans Post on Saturday, Unity State deputy governor Tor Tungwar Kweiguong, who also doubles as the chairman of the SPLM-IO in Unity state, said the top opposition official in the state was killed on Friday along with civilians in Leer.

“On behalf of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM/SPLA (IO) and on my own behalf and family, I would wish to convey my deepest condolence to entire membership of SPLM/SPLA (IO) in Unity State, family, relatives, friends and People of South Sudan for the loss of civilians in Southern Unity,” he said.

“Comrade James Gatjung Jail Dok, Deputy Chairperson of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM/SPLA (IO) in Unity State, was one of many unarmed civilians that were killed on Friday 8th April 2022 in swampy areas of Leer County,” he added.

    It is very unfortunate to hear about the civilians killing in southern parts of unity state.
    I appealing to the government of South Sudan 🇸🇸 to stopped war because we in the peaceful process. Delayed security arrangements it has caused a lot mess in the grounds.
