JUBA, JUNE 8, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The Troika countries (United States, United Kingdom, and Norway) on Thursday afternoon called for end to the ongoing violence at the Malakal IDP camp in which 14 people were killed.

In a statement extended to Sudans Post, the Troika countries said they are concerned by the fighting and called for calm.

“The Embassies of Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States express their deep concern over reports of fighting at the Protection of Civilians (POC) site in Malakal, Upper Nile State,” they said in the statement.

“We are saddened by reports of casualties, including of both deaths and injuries,” they added.

The brief statement further called for calm “and urge all those in a position to influence the communities involved to take all appropriate steps to end the violence.”

The fighting erupted this morning between Nuer and Shilluk communities as a continuation of an earlier incident in which one person was attacked and set on fire.

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) said at least 14 people have been killed and 16 were wounded.

Eyewitnesses and IDPs however told Sudans Post that the death told is projected at 30, a claim Sudans Post cannot independently verify.
