YIROL – Two people died while eight others sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred in Yirol West County of Lakes State on Thursday, police confirmed.

Lakes State police spokesperson, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac told Sudans Post that a vehicle belonging ARC road construction company from the capital, Juba overturned in Pircok at about 6:00am and instantly killed the two people.

He identified the dead as a 28-year old mother of two and a man aged 29.

Eight others were injured in the tragic accident, the police spokesperson said.

Mabor said those injured were evacuated to Yirol hospital while the whereabouts of the vehicle driver and an eight-year old girl remained unknown.

Some of the victims, he stated, were transferred to Juba for further treatment.

Mabor said the vehicle was heading to Akon in Warrap prior to the accident.

“We received information from the survivors of the incident that the driver was drunk. He started drinking alcohol from Juba up to where the vehicle overturned due to over speeding. This is what happened and the police is still searching for the whereabouts of the driver and a young girl who fled the scene,” he stressed.

The police officer warned drivers against driving under the influence of alcohol.
