RUMBEK – Two people were killed in separate incidents yesterday at cattle camps in Lakes state, police authorities said Monday.

In the first incident, a young man was shot dead at Abut cattle camp in Rumbek Central County, according to police spokesperson Major Elijah Mabor Makuac.

According to Makuac, the suspect fled the scene and is being pursued by security forces.

“The report we received indicates the man entered the hut of a girl at night. He was seen leaving the hut early in the morning by the girl’s relatives, who then shot him,” told Sudans Post.

“The relatives of the deceased remain calm and are awaiting further action from the government. The security situation is normal, and no further incidents have been reported,” he added.

The state police spokesman said a man was accidentally shot by his relative while cleaning a rifle in a separate incident at Cuei-cok Payam in Rumbek East County.

“The relative reportedly discharged the firearm accidentally, wounding the victim. The shooter initially fled but was later apprehended,” he explained.

Makuac emphasized the importance of proper gun handling and urged those in possession of firearms to surrender them to the government if they lack proper training.

“These incidents highlight the dangers of untrained individuals possessing firearms. Guns require proper handling to avoid tragedies,” he said.

“We urge anyone with a firearm to either surrender it to the government or ensure they handle it with extreme care,” he added.
