JUBA – Two members of South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, are being detained in South Sudan’s capital Juba by the country’s police forces, according to a senior opposition official.

The senior opposition official who refused not to be named said Abraham Manyiel and William Manyiel Martin  were arrested on Saturday in the Juba’s neighborhood of Rock city while they were on the way to attend the Sudanese peace signing ceremony.

“Two of our colleagues have been arrested. They were arrested in Rock city by the police service and they are still being detained,” the official said on phone from Juba this morning.

The senior opposition official said the main armed opposition groups is yet to understand the circumstances in which the two officials were arrested, and said that the matter has been raised to the chairman and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar to look into it.

“We don’t know what happened and how they were arrested. All in all, we have raised the issue to the chairman and commander in chief and the First Vice-President,” the official further said.
