Local sources speaking to Sudans Post identified the victims as coming from Nyanruet village in Aweil East County.
The state traffic police director, Mou Dut, blamed the accident on overseeding by the driver, who lost control of the vehicle and struck the two pedestrians.
“The driver is currently in custody in Aweil for investigation,” Dut told Sudans Post on Monday. “We have gathered details of the incident and will be forwarding a report to the prosecuting attorney.”
Dut added that the car involved was unlicensed and the driver lacked a valid license.
“These factors, combined with speeding, contributed to the tragedy,” he emphasized.
Dut urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent similar accidents on public roads.
