JUBA – The United States has expressed dissatisfaction with South Sudan’s investigation into the 2017 death of British-American journalist Christopher Allen and called for further inquiry.
Allen was killed while reporting on clashes between government and opposition forces along the South Sudan-Ugandan border in August 2017.
A South Sudanese government inquiry released in March determined that Allen was caught in crossfire but had entered the country illegally.
The US State Department statement found this report inadequate.
“The subsequently released report does not address in a comprehensive manner all the factors that led to Mr. Allen’s death or the disrespectful treatment of his remains,” the statement reads.
The US renewed its demand for a credible investigation by the South Sudanese government.
“We renew our call on the transitional government to conduct a credible investigation into Mr. Allen’s death and to demonstrate the political will to take accountability seriously,” the statement concluded.
mr allen entered south sudan illegally and was killed in cross fire while covering the battle and that is all .
