JUBA, APRIL 24, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has criticized the former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir for the ongoing conflict in the capital Khartoum and other parts of the country.
In a viral tweet on April 20, Wine whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi expressed shock and sadness at the conflict in Sudan, saying the ongoing displacement and death of civilians in the Sudanese capital is a shame to humanity in Africa.
“Images coming out of Sudan are such a shame to Africa and humanity. The killings must be condemned by all people with a conscience,” he said.
“What a reminder of the danger dictators tends to leave their countries in! I get shocked when people praise tyrants and their naked abuse of power,” he added.
The Ugandan politician also criticized al-Bashir for his failure to prepare a peaceful transition of power, which he believes is the cause of the current crisis.
He accused al-Bashir of not caring if the country burnt, stating that the ongoing conflict is a result of his lack of concern for the country’s welfare.
“Had Omar al-Bashir read the warnings and prepared a peaceful transition; the story would be different. But he didn’t care if the country burnt — and here they are now. My prayers are with you brothers and sisters in Sudan,” he said.
“May Allah (SWT) see you through these tough times,” he added.
Sudan descended into a deadly conflict last week after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) which was elevated from Janjaweed by al Bashir in 2013 attacked several Sudanese army and government positions in the capital Khartoum and other cities.
Fighting has since continued and has sparked the largest displacement in the capital Khartoum since the country’s independence from Britain and Egypt nearly s70 years ago.
Despite international and regional calls for dialogue, the commanding officers of the two sides, Abdel Fattah al Burhan of the Sudanese Armed Forces and Mohamed Hamdan Daglo of the RSF have show no intention for peace.
