WAU – The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Friday handed over a newly constructed police station in Kayango payam, Jur River County, Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
Deputy Governor Zechariah Joseph Garang, who attended the ceremony with his delegation, praised the project’s contribution to public safety.
“This new police facility will help the community by providing protection of life and property for the local people of this area,” Garang said.
He highlighted the project as a step towards fulfilling the vision of the late South Sudanese leader, Dr. John Garang, for development.
“The promise and dream of our late leader is materializing, and we are happy for this,” Garang said. “The road construction completed by UNOPS and this police station are positive developments for Jur River County, thanks to the support of international partners and the local people.”
Garang urged the police and local chiefs to ensure the proper maintenance of the facility.
“This police station will be followed by a youth center that is currently under construction,” he said. “I urge the youth to take good care of all these gifts, as they represent the development we’ve been yearning for.”
He also emphasized the need for improved education facilities in the growing county and encouraged everyone to contribute towards establishing schools, even amidst challenges.
“Despite the hunger situation, I urge everyone to contribute whatever they have for the development of Jur River County, especially in the area of education,” Garang said.
He further urged local chiefs to take responsibility for public interests and work alongside development partners like UNMISS.
The completion of this quick impact project serves as a symbol of hope for improved service delivery and strengthens the sense of government presence, even if facilitated through partnerships.
