RUMBEK – The United Nations Mission Volunteers in Rumbek have renovated a medical ward at Rumbek State Hospital, investing $6,000 in the project.

Fatinata Mamie Henrietta, a UN Volunteers focal point for Rumbek field, said the team identified the need for the renovation during a hospital tour.

“We decided to take over this project and filled the form for almost six thousand USD dollars. We did monthly subscriptions of 10 dollars and donated extra when needed,” she said.

The renovation included replacing windows, roofing sheets, and flooring, as well as providing mattresses, bedmates, and pillows.

Dr. Teran Madit Teran, Medical Director of Rumbek State Hospital, expressed gratitude for the initiative.

“I want to send out my happiness and gratitude to this nice initiative carried out by UN volunteers,” he said.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the hospital, particularly after the withdrawal of the health Pool fund, which had previously supported the health system.

The renovation is expected to improve patient care and hygiene at the hospital.
