Undersecretary of East African Affairs ministry dies of COVID-19

Mou Mou Athian who is said to be 69 died in Juba on Saturday after weeks of hospitalization.

JUBA – South Sudan’s undersecretary for the ministry of East African Affairs Mou Mou Athian has succumbed to the deadly coronavirus pandemic after weeks of sickness, according to a senior government official.

Mou who is said to be 69 died in Juba on Saturday after weeks of hospitalization according to several government officials, close friends and relatives.

“This is to confirmed that Honorable Mou Mou Athian has passed away today at hospital here in Juba,” one senior government official who requested to be named told Sudans Post in a phone call.

The latest high-profile death came as other senior government officials are battling the virus and as coronavirus cases are skyrocketing in unprecedented numbers.

Over twenty staff members of President Salva Kiir’s office including presidential affairs minister Nhial Deng Nhial have tested positive for the coronavirus disease.

Former finance minister Agrey Sabuni has also tested positive and is said to be reconvening from the virus following days of respiratory complications.
