JUBA – The minister of cooperative and rural development of South Sudan’s Unity state Rebecca Geay Majok has passed on in the Jordanian capital Amman on Wednesday morning, according to a statement by state governor Nguen Manytuil Wijang.
“I am deeply saddened to hear the passing on of Hon. Rebecca Geay Majok, the State Minister of Cooperative and Rural Development, in Jordan early this morning. On behalf of my family, the Government and people of Unity State, I offer my heartfelt condolence to her family, friends and entire people of Unity State,” Governor Manytuil said in a statement extended to Sudans Post.
“Late Hon. Rebecca Geay was very strong woman who dedicated her life to save the people of South Sudan and Unity State in particular. As we mourn her death, let us stand in solidarity with her family and Rubkona (Leek) Community. I pray that God our refuge, in all difficulties will give us the comfort we need in this time of mourning to cope with Rebecca’s passing,” the statement added.
Rebecca has been one of the most successful women politicians in the country and Unity state in particular.
He served in several ministerial capacities in Unity state and the defunct Northern Liech state governments.
She hails from Unity state’s Rubkona County.
In 2021, she was appointed as minister of cooperative and rural development following the reconstitution of the state government as part of an arrangement brought about as result of the revitalized peace agreement that ended the seven-year-old conflict in February 2020.
