BENTIU – Police authorities in Unity State have implemented robust measures to rid towns of guns and other light weapons.
This proactive approach aims to ensure a peaceful and joyous holiday season for all residents ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
“We don’t want any person to move with a gun from today onwards,” declared Captain John Malith Kuol, the Unity State police spokesman.
“Even soldiers and police personnel must keep their weapons at their barracks. Only deployed forces will carry firearms to protect civilians and maintain law and order,” he said.
Captain Kuol emphasized the increased police presence in major towns, including Bentiu town, Rubkona town, and various internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.
He assured residents that the 2023 Christmas celebration would be the safest in Unity State history.
“We have deployed more police forces and imposed strict measures to collect guns and light weapons,” Captain Kuol stated.
“Army youths are not allowed to move with guns, and anyone violating this order will be arrested and their weapons confiscated. Keep your guns at home or in the barracks, or you risk losing them during our patrols,” he added.
The Christmas season officially began today in Unity State, marked by massive Christian processions in the Bentiu IDP camp and Bentiu town.
