JUBA – South Sudan’s Jagei community has elected Unity state’s finance minister Malual Tap Diu, as its next chairman in an election that drawn thousands of people in the country’s capital Juba.

Jagei people hail from Koch County of Unity state and Diu was elected by an overwhelming majority, according to electoral figures obtained by Sudans Post.

In a statement, Diu welcomed his election and pledged to unite the Jagei community and to make reconciliation efforts between the community and neighboring counties.

“I am short of words to express my emotions and gratitude for the opportunity I have received to be elected your chairman,” he said in a statement seen by Sudans Post.

“I extend my sincere thanks to my family, friends and loyal supporters for having been very committed during our eight months campaign process. I also thank all the people in the diaspora and at home who trusted and have put their faith in me,” he added.
