JUBA – An attack in Uror County of South Sudan’s Jonglei State resulted in the deaths of four people and wounded six others, local officials said on Thursday. The incident occurred in the Ladow and Juet Payams on Wednesday.

Nyamar Lony Thichot, Jonglei State Minister for Information, said in a press statement that suspected armed youth from the neighboring Greater Pibor Administrative Area were responsible for the attack.

“The Government of Jonglei State is distressed to learn about the attack on Ladow village and Juet village in Yuai Headquarters of Uror County by Murle armed criminals from Greater Pibor Administrative Area,” Lony said.

She stated that the wounded were receiving treatment at the county’s main hospital in Yuai.

“This heinous incident occurred last night, March 5, 2025, at around 10:00 PM, leaving four people dead: one woman and three men. One woman is missing, and six people were wounded. Among the wounded, four are children, and two are adults, a woman and a man, in critical condition currently in Yuai hospital,” Lony said.

She condemned the attack and called on authorities in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area to pursue peace.

“The Government of Jonglei State condemns in the strongest terms possible these attacks of killing and abduction carried out by Murle armed criminals from the neighboring Greater Pibor Administrative Area on the people of Jonglei State,” Lony said.

“We call upon the Government of Greater Pibor Administrative Area to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice immediately,” she added.

She further stated that Jonglei State remains committed to peace between Jonglei State and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.
