JUBA – Government has hired African Resource Corporation (ARC) and Chinese firm, Shangdong High Speed to construct internal roads at five public Universities.
Simon Mijak, Minister of Roads and Bridges said the project will start at the University of Juba.
“These were initiative from the Ministry of Roads and Bridges which I am leading and being aware of the situation of the University of Juba, I thought last year when the vice chancellor or the chairman of the Council will be giving speeches should narrate the challenges facing the University,” Mijak said during inauguration ceremony of renovated administration office and other facilities at the University of Juba on Wednesday.
“What we are doing at the University of Juba, we are going to do it for Dr. John Garang University and internal roads in of (Upper Nile University) in Malakal, (University of Bahr el Ghazal) in Wau and (University of Rumbek) in Rumbek,” Mijak added.
Mijak said the Ministry will soon start implementing the directives of the President to transform the public universities.
“I am here to reaffirm the commitment of the Ministry of Roads and Bridges to implement the directives of the President of Republic and Chancellor of the University which he made during graduation the last year,” he said.
He said they have hired ACR to construct staff houses and Shangdong to construct engineering laboratory at public universities.
“It is all about construction of internal roads inside the campus including staff houses and hostel and this commitment is going to be implemented by one of our contractors, ARC which is constructing roads in the country,” he said.
“The last commitment was engineering laboratory which is going to be carrying out by Shangdong High Speed, their respective were here and they are the one constructing Juba-Rumbek road.”
