The South Sudanese liberation hero was received during a thank-giving prayer at the residence of his daughter, Josephine Lagu who is South Sudan’s minister of agriculture and food security, which was attended by the governor of Central Equatoria state Emma Adil Anthony.
A statement by Emma’s office said the visit by the governor “comes following the return of General Lagu from London over the weekend, more so, Governor Adil becomes the first ever Governor to pay a homage to the iconic leader being the host Governor where the National Capital is seated.”
According to the statement, Governor Adil said he “welcomes the return of General Lagu to the country’s Capital-Juba and asked the Almighty God to continue protecting and keeping him stronger and healthy.”
He described “described Lagu as a symbol of peace and unity who has been advancing efforts towards national cohesion, independence and freedom from bondage of oppression from the repressive regimes of the then Khartoum governments.”
In attendance was also the national minister of environment and forestry Josephine Napwon Cosmos, among other senior government officials.
