JUBA – At least 20 civilians were killed and several others wounded on Thursday in clashes over girl elopement in Annuol Payam of Yirol West in Lakes State of South Sudan, according to state government officials.

“The number of people killed from both sides have increased from 13 to 20 based on the final report after the security forces take over the incident area,” said caretaker information minister William Kocji Kerjok, said Friday, according to the Juba Echo.

Kocji said the fighting claimed 20 lives were triggered by girl elopement.

“The fighting was over the girl’s elopement. The girl has been eloped by one of the guys and the family of that girl went and shot four people killing them on spot and people from the other side also took revenge,” Kerjok added.

“Almost the whole community of Annuol starting fighting because there were some people wounded or killed in the process who were not even part of the problem, so this triggered everybody to get involved in the fighting and it made the issue to become huge,” he added.

He said calm has returned to the area after the government sent security forces to control the situation.

“The Commissioner of Yirol East went here with more forces for reinforcement, so now the commissioner is on the ground, they made joint operation with commissioner of Rumbek East and they managed to control the situation now,” he disclosed.

Since 2019, South Sudan has been experiencing a surge in communal violence in Jonglei, Warrap and Lakes states mainly due to cattle raiding, child abduction and revenge killings.

“Violence over eloped girl kills 20 people in Lakes state”

Eloping girls for wives is a practice here in *Upper Nile and Bahr El Gazelles*. Some people are killed in the ‘process’. But to be honest with you fools; young girls and boys have to be married off. That is the way it is and will always will.

Here in South Sudan, we don’t marry our daughters or boys to the cloned so-called *Arabs of North Sudan, Abeshas (so-called ethiopians) prostitutes, Nigerians, Saudi Arabians, their evil juus (so-called israelis) attack dogs, some of their Bantuses, Indians, Pakistanis, Nepalese, Bangladeshis or Sri Lankans, the UN, their sleazy NGOs and some of their creeps in between who have attached themselves to our country and over our people. Game is is over little babies—–talk to your ‘mother and get away with it’.>>>>
