JUBA – South Sudan’s Vice President for Gender and Youth Cluster Rebecca Nyandeng Garang De Mabior has left South Sudan’s capital Juba heading to the United States of America where she will be attending, on behalf of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the 76th UN General Assembly.

Last week, President Salva Kiir delegated Garang to represent him at the UN annual meeting and the former said she was preparing along with a huge delegation comprising senior government officials, to leave for New York.

Speaking to reporters at Juba International Airport before her departure on Sunday morning, Garang said she will discuss with various world leaders on the sideline of the general assembly meeting challenges facing the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

“We will discuss issues of the implementation of the peace agreement and also about development and the issues of my cluster,” the South Sudanese deputy president told reporters at Juba International Airport.

Kiir last addressed the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.

He delegated then First Vice President Taban Deng Gai to represent him at the annual meeting in September 2019.
