The killings occurred in the Ramathieng cattle camp. Warrap State Minister of Information and Communication, William Wol Mayom, told Sudans Post on Friday that the Acting Governor made the statement during a visit to Romic on Thursday.
“The visit to Romic in Tonj East County was to console the community and advocate for peace, urging them not to seek revenge. We will analyze the situation and identify the best way to apprehend the culprits,” Mayom said.
On July 30, 2024, suspected armed men from Ngapagok Payam in Tonj East County attacked Ramathieng cattle camp, killing seven people, including women and children. Six others sustained gunshot injuries.
Mayom noted that efforts to pursue the suspects have been hindered by heavy flooding, which has cut off the road from Kuajok to Tonj East County.
“The government will use all available resources to ensure the culprits are apprehended,” he added, quoting Garang.
Anastasie Nyirigira, Head of Field Office for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Kuajok, called on both sides to cease hostilities and allow the government to resolve the conflict peacefully.
Gum Gaak, Acting Commissioner of Tonj East County, thanked the state government and UNMISS for their efforts to reach out to the families of the victims and survivors of the Romic attack.
The visiting delegation, led by the Acting Governor, included Mawien Atek, Local Government Minister; Zakaria Thokyok, State Member of Parliament; and Bona Mawan Yaap, member of the State Relief Rehabilitation Commission.
