WARRAP – The Warrap State government has commenced the distribution of over 9,000 bags of sorghum and maize flour to residents as part of a subsidy program aimed at mitigating the impact of rising food prices.
Last week, the government announced that it has dispatched trucks loaded with subsidized food to Warrap State, one of the hunger-hit states of South Sudan. The food subsidy is aimed at boosting food reliability to the locals amid worsening economy.
The food items are being made available at discounted rates in Kuajok and six other counties within the state. The initiative is intended to provide relief to vulnerable households struggling with economic hardship.
Acting Governor Aluel Garang officially launched the distribution on Friday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring that the subsidized food reaches those most in need.
“I urge the local authorities to implement the policy of the State government in subsidizing the prices of food, I also warn traders not to buy the subsidized food and no one is allowed to buy more than one bags,” she said.
To prevent price gouging, authorities have implemented strict controls on the sale of the commodities.
Santino Ngong Longar, chairman of the Food Stuff Management Committee, detailed the distribution plan and price structure. Each county will receive 1,000 bags of subsidized food.
