KUAJOK – Traffic police in Warrap State have detained two drivers in connection with separate road accidents that occurred between Wednesday and Thursday last week in Tonj South County. The incidents involved property damage and personal injuries, according to local authorities.

A state police officer told Sudans Post yesterday that the first accident took place on Wednesday when a heavily loaded truck traveling from Juba to Aweil via Wau lost control while reversing in Tonj South County’s main market.

The truck crashed into a shop, destroying goods and injuring a woman seated nearby.

“The first incident was on Wednesday, January 8. The driver came from Juba with a heavily loaded truck of goods and attempted to reverse the vehicle at Town Market but eventually lost control and crashed into the shop, breaking the thigh of a woman who was next to the shop,” said 1st Lt. Kuel Ayii, Tonj South County’s traffic officer, in an interview.

Police identified the driver as Makur Makur, 25. Authorities collaborated with health officials to transfer the injured woman, identified as Ayada Mathiang, 40, to Wau for further medical treatment.

The second incident occurred on Thursday at Maduol Market in Tonj South County. A passenger reportedly fell from a moving vehicle after a collision between a Land Cruiser and a truck on the road to Wau.

“The Arab businessman broke his arm and sustained head injuries. He is identified as Abdullah Ramadhan, aged 50, as he was also heading to Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal State,” Ayii said.

Ayii attributed both accidents to reckless driving and confirmed that legal procedures are underway while the injured victims continue to receive medical care.
