Watchdog warns Sudanese leaders against plunging country to armed violence  

JUBA, APRIL 14, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has warned Sudanese leaders against plunging the country into armed violence, urging them to use peaceful means to resolve differences.

There have been tensions in the capital Khartoum after the militia Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by deputy chair of transitional sovereign council Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo – or Hemeti- deployed in various areas of the capital and other cities.

This sparked a robust warning of a deadly conflict from the army which said that the RSF deployed without prior consultation or permission from the army command.

In a statement extended to Sudans Post this evening, CEPO urged that any misunderstanding within the country’s security and defense forces should be resolved through dialogue rather than military confrontation.

“We are concerned about the current political developments in Sudan,” warned CEPO in the statement. “The misunderstanding within the security and defense forces should be avoided because it can easily return the country to arm violence.”

CEPO Executive Director Edmund Yakani stressed the importance of political stability in Sudan, noting that it has a direct impact on the stability of South Sudan.

“Any political instability in Sudan has a direct negative impact on political stability in South Sudan,” he said, calling on the political leadership of South Sudan to take an active part in resolving the political crises in Sudan.

He pointed out that the Juba peace agreement can be used to nurture a peaceful settlement of Sudan’s political crises.

“Peace and stability is a shared comment aspect of both countries,” said Yakani. “The political leadership of South Sudan should utilize the Juba peace agreement for nurturing peaceful settlement of Sudan political crises.”

CEPO called on Sudanese leaders to prioritize peaceful settlement of their political differences.

“We urge the political leadership in both countries to prioritize peaceful settlement of their political differences,” said Mr. Yakani.
