YAMBIO — Disgruntled senior government officials in Western Equatoria State have resumed work after three weeks of boycott.
On October 7, 2022, top officials from Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Government (SPLM-IG), South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), Other Political Parties (OPP), and Former Detainees (FDs) declared boycott of the Western Equatoria State government, citing ‘incompetent’ leadership of Governor Alfred Futuyo.
Speaking during a joint press conference in Yambio this morning, the head of the disgruntled group and Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria, Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko, said they have agreed to resume work after reaching a consensus with governor Futuyo.
“This issue was purely an administrative case, it has nothing to do with political Party or tribalism. Now we are going to issue another press Statement for our resumption,” said Gaaniko said during a press conference on Monday.
On his party, the Governor of Western Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba hailed the disgruntled group for returning to work.
“I am still the head of the state; I have to welcome them back as my children. The day they will resume, I will slaughter a bull so that we celebrate their return but let us follow the protocol not everyone wants to speak like Governor,” Gen. Futuyo said.
