Women group urges Kiir to punish minister Mayen for tabbing his wife

JUBA – The South Sudanese Women Intellectuals Forum is urging the government to take necessary against Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Peter Mayen Majongdit for beating and stabbing his wife.

“We strongly condemn this act and call upon the government of South Sudan to take the necessary actions against the perpetrator,” said a statement seen by Sudans Post this morning.

They described Majongdit act as Gender-Based Violence which they said is one of the worst forms of violence perpetrated towards women.

“The women of South Sudan cannot stand by and watch quietly as such acts are perpetrated by those who are supposed to represent us as a country and to defend the citizens of South Sudan,” it said.

They said there were disappointed to heard government official abusing the rights of women.

“The women of South Sudan are saddened by the fact that Hon. Peter Mayen, who is supposed to promote the rights of women in our country, is instead violating and abusing these rights,” it said.

They warned against any act of violence against women or any citizen of South Sudan is uncalled for.

“The South Sudanese Women Intellectuals will continue to stand for the rights of all to be protected against any forms of abuse,” they said.
