JUBA – More than 100 women from different women’s organizations gathered in South Sudan’s capital Juba for a three-day conference to sensitize themselves on the provisions of the 2018 Revitalization Peace Agreement.

The three-day awareness on the status of R-ARCSS was held under the theme, “Toward Effective Participation of Women of the R-ARCSS for Sustainable Peace in South Sudan.”

Grace Klonzi, CTSAMVM Civil and Gender Advisor said strengthening the role of women in the peace process is crucial for its implementation.

“The agreement presents an opportunity that if taken with the seriousness it deserves by all parties, will set South Sudan on a path for sustainable peace,” Klonzi said during the opening of a three-day workshop in Juba on Wednesday.

She said educating women about the content of the 2018 peace deal will strengthen and improve their participation in the decision-making processes.

“It offers the most effective platform to discuss and resolve the severe security, governance, economic and humanitarian challenges that continue to challenge South Sudan,” she said.

Guy Gabriel, RJMEC Director of Communication who represented their Chairperson, Charles Tai Gituai at the workshop said the three-day consultation workshop will strengthen and improve women’s participation and representation in the governance.

“In particular, there are provisions which refer to the prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls, including measures to prevent gender-based violence in general and sexual violence in particular,” Gabrial said.

Gabriel said that the peace deal provided provisions on the protection and promotion of women’s and girls’ rights, including protection from GBV.

The three-day consultative workshop was organized by Gender Empowerment for South Sudan Organization and South Sudan Women Empowerment Network in partnership with RJMEC and CTSAMVM.
